Continuing the Journey Through Jūrmala’s Architecture : Dubulti railway station.

In this series, we’ve explored Jūrmala’s remarkable architectural heritage — from the striking Soviet modernist Dubulti Station to the elegant wooden villas that define its historic charm. Each structure offers a glimpse into the city’s evolving cultural identity.

📅 Reconstruction completed in 2024

Jūrmala’s Aspazija Primary School is an outstanding example of how contemporary architecture can successfully integrate with a high-quality educational environment. Reopened in the autumn of 2024 after a complete reconstruction, the school now offers functionally designed spaces, spacious and bright glass corridors, and a modern sports hall with seating for up to 250 spectators.

This building embodies key contemporary values such as functionality, sustainability, and a community-oriented environment — values that also define the direction of modern architecture in Jūrmala. The school’s reconstruction project has also received professional recognition — it was awarded second place in the "Reconstruction" category at the Latvian Construction Annual Award 2024.

Stories of Historic Architecture Right Here in Jūrmala
Today I’m sharing one of the latest buildings I’ve documented – a residential house located in Bulduri, tucked away on one of the small streets. This building is a culturally and historically significant example of early 20th-century architecture.
The building stands out with its asymmetrical composition, Neo-Renaissance style motifs, and a striking three-storey polygonal tower that serves as a vertical accent. The semi-circular arched verandas add a distinctive charm to the structure. One can’t overlook the artistically crafted main fence posts – columns featuring floral vase motifs cast in concrete. All these elements give the building its characteristic aesthetic and convey the spirit of its era.
The property’s history is also marked by notable personalities — during the First Republic of Latvia, it belonged to J. Bruzis and lawyer L. Dzene. This biographical layer adds further significance to the building.
