Fishermen’s Heritage & Ragakāpa
Discover Jūrmala’s fishing heritage and the natural beauty of Ragakāpa!
How did coastal fishermen live and work? What boats and fishing tools did they use? And how has nature shaped the landscape along the Gulf of Riga?
Our tour begins at Jūrmala Open-Air Museum, where we explore the traditional life of local fishermen, their wooden boats, fishing equipment and customs.
We then continue to Ragakāpa Nature Park for a walk among sandy dunes and coastal pine trees. Along the way, we discover how trees survive in sandy, windy conditions, explore the fascinating world of mosses and lichens, and learn why old trees and dead wood are essential to the forest ecosystem.
This tour brings together two sides of Jūrmala: the cultural heritage of its fishing communities and the remarkable nature of its seaside landscape.
Come and discover the stories of fishermen, the history of the coast and the secrets of Ragakāpa’s forest!
